TWO DECADES OF SPECTACULAR SERVICE
"I am very happy here; that's all" says Ram Chandra Sharma (54) who has been
serving the guests as the Chauffeur in THE GRAND OBEROI Kolkata, for the last
two decades. In two phases, he has served this hotel for the last 20 years.
1987 to 1998 has been the first phase. The second phase, after a gap of seven
years, started in 2005. And the impeccable service continues...like a silently
flowing river....
"Due to my father's death, I could not complete my
studies; I was 19 at that time. I could not pursue my studies; hence I opted
for the job of a driver”. Around ten years he worked in three different
organizations as a driver before joining The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata.
This is one story. Now, see how interesting the other
story is: The flawless service offered by Sharma impressed a businessman from
Dhaka. This 80 year old gentleman prefers to stay only in Oberoi when he is in
Kolkata; importantly, he wants only Sharma to be his Chauffeur. Four years
back, this guest offered that he will be too glad to sponsor the educational
expenses of his eldest son Abhishek Sharma. Every year, this guest will send
money promptly. Two months back, when the guest had been staying in The Oberoi
Grand, Sharma graciously accepted the cash in person from the guest.
"Sharmaji is very calm and composed. He is very
humble. Most of the guests ask for him only; that too much in advance; He has
excellent relationship with our Guests" says Karan Talwar, Front Office Manager, The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata.
Born in a Brahmin family, in a village called
Gadhipalpura, in Agra district, Sharma
is married to Seema and is blessed with three sons and a daughter.
"For my children's education, I had opted to stay in
Kolkata" informs R C Sharma, who owns three acres of land in his native
village.
"At the Oberoi Grand, the staff members are very
helpful and friendly. I do learn a lot from the guests from different
countries. It is an elevating experience to serve the Guests".
Chauffeur Sharma lives in a rented house with his family in Kolkata.
Remember : His Grandfather has been a rich Zamindar in Agra.

Amazing story Sir ! I liked the expression that Mr Sharma's service is like a silently flowing river. No wonder God sent the guest from Dhaka to help him in his sons education.
