ANGELS FROM NORTH EAST INDIA........7

"MY MOM IS MY ROLE MODEL"

The first week of the month. The first weekly off-day of the month. That day is very important for Pallavi Kumar, the 2nd year Operational Trainee in THE OBEROI GRAND, Kolkata. This Assamese girl will be there at 10am, in the State Bank Of India Taratala Branch,Kolkata.

Case in point : You will be utterly wrong, in case, you are under the impression that she has gone to the Bank to withdraw the money. No, not at all. She is there in the Bank to transfer money from her account to her father's account.

Guwahati born Pallavi is very different. Every month, she sends her hard earned money to her Father; with unabated regularity.

"My mom is my role model. She was a very bright student; has been the District topper". Pallavi's father is an employee of Indian Railways. Mom is a homemaker. Younger sister is studying B Com; younger brother is a 7th Standard student.

One of the most valuable guests of The Oberoi Grand, an Assamese businessman, living in Mumbai, will be visiting this hotel two to three times in a month. Pallavi could establish excellent rapport with this guest. "My interaction with this guest has been a great confidence building exercise for me".

In the first year of her career as an Operational Trainee, in a short span of nine months, she has been adjudged as the STAR OF THE MONTH. Yet another morale booster for  Pallavi.

This incident had happened last year. In IHM Guwahati, The Grand Oberoi HR team had already landed. Campus interviews happened... Pallavi also has been there in the final round...just before the final results were announced, Pooja Grover,(HR Manager,The Oberoi Grand) beckoned Pallavi....took her to the IHM Principal ... and said...... "Sir, she is the best". Yet another incident that catapulted her self esteem.

Cooking, visiting places in and around Kolkata, outing with friends, watching movies, most importantly, sleeping as many hours to her heart's content are her hobbies.

She always dreams that one day she will fly to a foreign country."I would love to see the World" says Pallavi.
