 Marvellous Mohit

“I am at the arrival belt". This was my message to Mohit Sharma(33) Front office manager, Park Plaza, Chandigarh-Zirakpur, as and when I reached the Chandigarh airport yesterday. His reply came: “Noted Sir, I am just outside the arrival gate". It was indeed a pleasant surprise for me that Mohit had personally come to receive me. (This is the second time, an HOD is coming to receive me at the airport Many years back, chef turned GM Mahesh had come to pick me up at the Jaipur airport. He was then the GM of Shiv Vilas Jaipur).

On our way to the hotel, Mohit explained me about all the hotels in Chandigarh city and very proudly about his own hotel. I found him to be prompt and proactive in executing guest requests. He is very patient. Listens aptly. Always ready to help. Humane and sagacious. On a separate note, Mohit had attended my service excellence workshops in 2013, when he was an associate at Westin Sohna, Gurugram, Haryana.

“Westin Sohna as well as Westin Gurgaon gave me lot of opportunities to acquire new skills In five years, I got three promotions when I was working in these hotels”, said Mohit.

Mohit's professional journey has been extraordinary. Mohit joined the Oberoi Cecil in Shimla as an industrial trainee after graduating from IHM Kurukshetra. His next stops were the Westin Sohna and Westin Gurgaon. Following that was an 18-month stint in a resort in Kenya. He soon became a lobby manager at the Park in Hyderabad, and later worked on the pre-opening team at the Westin Pushkar. Mohit spent 9 months in Thailand at the Novotel Phuket. He then worked for Club Mahindra for 25 months before moving on to Park Plaza Chandigarh in June 2022.

What I liked most in him is this - throughout our interaction, he exhibited a level of ownership commensurate with that of the hotel's general manager. Indeed, a very inspiring characteristic. Mohit is married to Neha Sharma. Playing and watching cricket, travelling and spending time with his family are his hobbies. “Family comes first”, says Mohit, a pedigreed professional, “spending time with my family members is my hobby as well as necessity”.
