'Married to Bhagyalakshmi; Wedded to Sanman'




Time flies. 30 years have passed.

Today, B.R. Ramakrishna Bhat (47), the face as well as the load bearing pillar of the 118 seater Sanman restaurant, located in Seshadripuram, Bengaluru is its managing partner. Sanman  is one of the most successful eateries known for its distinctively delicious chutneys, soft  Idlis, and lip-smacking filter coffee.

Remember, this 9th grade dropout had joined this restaurant as a cashier at the age of 17. His salary at the time was Rs.250/- only.

Thanks to his honesty and hard work, today, he is the operations head of this eatery.He is married to Bhagyalakshmi, that said, he was wedded to Sanman restaurant for all these days.

The distinctive features of this eatery are: it is the restaurant of Hotel Hoysala (started in 1982)functioning  in a separate building,spacious mezzanine floor meant for bigger groups- incredibly and spotlessly clean too,South Indian food for breakfast and lunch periods. food served during dinner sessions are predominantly North Indian delicacies.

“ We have a centralized kitchen that serves two more eateries.  Cafe Sanman at Seshadripuram college campus was opened in 2013. Our second cafe at Malleswaram came up after four years” says Ramakrishna.“We do outdoor catering also”, he added, “ Raj Bhavan, Vidhan Soudha and CM’s house are our regular customers”.

Ramakrishna also visits these two cafes, three times a day, on his two wheeler. He reaches Saman restaurant at 8 am. Accounts…purchase …stores …food quality check to complaint handling…his hands are in too many pies. Afternoon hours after lunch period is meant for a bit of  rest. By 6 pm he will be back and sign off by 1030 pm  after the closing.

“ I want to go on a world trip. That is my dream” says Ramakrishna, who makes it a point to visit Vaishnodevi temple temple at Jammu in the month of December every year with unabated regularity.

“Ramakrishna is honest as well as hardworking” opined Mohankrishna, the director, Hotel Hoysala.

“If I am known as a successful restaurateur, it is only because of Sanman restaurant “ admits Ramakrishna.

He is Blessed with two sons. Samarth R Bhat, and Sagar R Bhat.
