FROM THE GATEWAY HOTEL, KOLKATA...............2

                     SUPERB  SUPRABHA!

Suprabha Pramanick (20), now belongs to the Taj family at Kolkata. Period.

At the lobby, in a corner, a young girl was seen singing to her heart's content. She had a golden voice. She was belting out Baul and Rabindra Sangeet. The lyrics of the folk songs reverberated the whole lobby ...that was Suprabha Pramanick.

I met her in the lobby along with Devraj Singh - the General Manager, The Gateway, Kolkata. That was in 07 December 2016. Just after two days, she has been commissioned by Taj to sing in the lobby.

"I am very grateful to Taj for the opportunity given to me. The salary I get from here will be useful for paying my college fees" says Suprabha - a first year MA (Music) student, at Rabindrabharathi University, Kolkata.

She specialises in Kheyal - the classical branch of this stream of music.

She is presently under the tutelage of two gurus. Ma Aditi Chakraborthy teaches classical music; while Debopriya Biswas teaches her folk music.

"Many singers lose themselves, when they go after name and fame. I do not want to be like that. I will focus on my music" says Suprabha with clarity.

At the Taj Gateway, Kolkata, she sings for two hours in the morning (8 to 10am) - then proceed to the college; in the evening hours (5 to 7 PM) she will perform again.
"We will support her fully by giving all the facilities including free accommodation. In addition, she will get a salary too. Uniforms have been already given" says Devraj Singh, General Manager, The Gateway Hotel, Kolkata.

Her father Gagan Pramanick is a law clerk in a Lower court in Krishnanagar village in Nadia district, in West Bengal. Gagan is an amateur Tabla player too. Her Mom is a homemaker.

"I have been singing since I was just three years old. My father is my source of inspiration" says Suprabha, who is not keen on cinema music. Classical music and folk songs happen to be Suprabha’s cup of tea.

Travelling is her hobby. Her parents are living in her native place, in the village, while Suprabha lives in Kolkata with the Taj family.
