FROM TAJ BENGAL, KOLKATA

                          SAVVY  SANTOSH !

Ever since June 2012 I have stayed at Taj Bengal, Kolkata for around 30 days in eight different trips. Trip after trip one person has delighted me a lot. That is Santosh Routh (33).

Others may see him as a Guest Service Attendant working as a Security covers at the lobby but for me he is a great person. His credibility deserves a round of applause. He is jolly and joyous at work. He is lenient and lively in his interactions with the guests - practicable and pragmatic at his service delivery.

During my recent stay at this iconic hotel – the always cheerful and enthusiastic Kolkata born Santosh approached me without any inhibitions and quipped – “Sir, since 01 October 2016 I am a Taj employee". He was so proud to be part of the Taj family. Though he was working in this hotel since July 2009 this commerce graduate was initially part of Group 4 as an outsourced security staff. His honesty and hard work gave him a berth at Taj Bengal. I am not surprised at all - natural consequence of good work done.

His father also was working in Group 4 - a security organisation. From 10th standard onwards he started making money by taking tuition classes. From standard 12th onwards he paid the entire fee by his own earnings. For 6 years he worked at a Cyber Cafe in Kolkata from 9.00AM to 4.00PM. He will duly sign off from there only to proceed to his evening college. While working in a Garment Shop a lady colleague suggested him to join Group 4. He did so promptly. His father's connect with the group made things further easier for him. That is the time he got deputed to Taj Bengal. The rest is history.

Santosh is happier nowadays. Obviously.

Santosh is married to Kiran Devi, a homemaker. Blessed with a son Rahul Kumar (12 years studying in 7th standard) and a daughter Megha Kumari (7 years - studying in 3rd standard).

"Santosh is a very committed worker. His orientation towards the guests is really remarkable" says Amit Singh F&B Director at Taj Bengal Kolkata.
