ANGELS FROM NORTH EAST INDIA.............22

GRATEFUL TO THE OBEROI  GRAND, KOLKATA

"Sir, last year I only had serviced your room; this time, I am supervising the entire second floor", Geeta Biswas spoke very confidently. I was staying in Room No 204.

It is my good fortune that since 2006, I have been visiting The Oberoi Grand Kolkata for my lecture engagements. I have been meeting Geetaji since 2011 when she has been the first year Operational Trainee of this iconic hotel.

Yes, her journey with The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata has been very fulfilling; elevating, uplifting…  has been really inspiring.  One guest wrote a positive comment on her flawless service, she is happy. When guests do directly compliment her on her service finesse, she is happy. During her second year as an Operational Trainee, that is in 2012, in the LQA Audit, she scored 95 plus consecutively for three months. For this she was beckoned by the General Manager George Kuruvilla; in his cabin she graciously and gracefully accepted the appreciation note from the General Manager, duly signed by R.Ramesh,(Vice President, Household Maintenance, Corporate Housekeeping).... Her heart was overflowing with joy.

"Sir, that was my happiest moment in  The Oberoi Grand" says Geeta.

Geeta Biswa(26), Supervisor Trainee,  is a happy person at work; she enjoys the work thoroughly; that is one thing. When someone appreciates her work, she is all more happier. That is another thing. Presently, she is in her last lap in the Supervisory Development Program. This week, she will write the exam. I will not be surprised to see her soon donning the supervisor uniform.

Bhutan born Geeta landed Kolkata after finishing her 12th; joined Regional Institute Of Hotel Management, completed three year course and then became part of the The Oberoi family in Kolkata. Her father, a retired school teacher is assisting his wife, who runs an 18 seater restaurant in Thimpu, near the Rinchen High School, in Bhutan.

Geeta's younger brother is studying B com; younger sister is a BSc Nursing student. They both are studying in Bengaluru; also staying together in Bengaluru itself.

"Our own home will be ready soon; construction work is going on. It is in our native place, Chairang Village, in Lamidara, Bhutan.

Decorating rooms with flowers at home, designing curtains and knitting are Geeta's  main hobbies.

"I have been a shy girl. The Oberoi Grand has given me so much confidence to face my life head on" quipped Geeta when asked about the key learning after joining The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata.

Geeta is a grateful person. Indeed, grateful to the OBEROI family with gratitude.
