FROM WESTIN GURGAON, NEW DELHI

                   ‘Virtuous’  Rishi  Verma

"Oh, was it from my pocket? Are you sure?”.

"Yes sir, your name and room no is written on the envelope".

The question was volleyed by a guest staying at the Westin Gurgaon who belonged to a marriage group, and Rishi Verma, the laundry co-ordinator of the hotel was the one who responded to him.

"Checking the pockets is our main job. It’s more important than the laundry work" says Rishi Verma (31) with a chuckle.

What prompted me to write this blog on Rishi is the following incident. In Feb 2016 a guest from Saudi Arabia (in Room 820 @ Westin Gurgaon) had given his trouser for dry cleaning. While checking the trouser Rishi found 330 Dinars in one of the pockets. He promptly informed the same to his boss Kailas - the Laundry In Charge of this hotel. All the relevant processes were duly followed as per the ‘Lost and Found’ procedure.  By evening when the guest entered the lobby, the Front Office Representatives promptly handed over the envelope containing his 330 Dinars. The guest was flabbergasted and elated for sure.

Soon after the HR department handed over an appreciation letter to Rishi for his honesty. The staff members in the laundry department were seen jumping with joy as of their colleagues has been honoured for his virtuous deed. It is rightly said “Only virtuous deeds abound in true joyAll other deeds are empty and devoid of distinction”.

"Rishi is very focussed at work, he does his job smilingly" says Kailas his boss; while Poonam, the Executive Housekeeper opined "Very diligent he is. He will complete all his work and only then he will go home".

Married to Seema, a homemaker, Rishi is a spiritual person. Hanuman is his favourite God. Listening to ‘bhajans’ is his main hobby.  Educated till class 12th Rishi started his career with the Trident Gurgaon in 2006 as a Machine Operator in the laundry department. Ironing was his main job then. In May of 2010 he joined Westin Gurgaon as a Machine Operator and then got promoted as a laundry co-ordinator in 2013.

What I found profoundly appealing in him is that he always works with a relaxed mind. He is very warm, courteous and friendly at all times. No wonder he has found a place in all my Trip Advisor reviews.

It is said ‘One prolongs his clan by prolonged exertion in both perseverance and sound understanding’. Rishi Verma is one of them.
