TURNING ADVERSITY TO ADVANTAGE
In life, There are four things that are very
auspicious. God's grace, association with good people, virtue and lastly, rain.
Varsha in Sanskrit means rain or rainy.
Kanchana is blessed with the first and last in abundance. God was with her in her
turbulent days. God also blessed her with a daughter- Varsha, who
is now studying in the 10th standard in Chennai.
Meet Kanchana, the Asst Manager Reservations at Fortune Select Palms, Chennai.
I was speaking to her in connection with this blog .
Listen to Kanchana:
"Women too can contribute in a big way and come up in the hospitality industry. It all depends on us. Behave in such a way, so that
people should talk only good about you. In life, one should not lose hope. Hope is everything. Do not give up
at any point of time. Face the problems head on...do not run away in
life".
Kanchana started her career in 1999 in Chola Sheraton, Chennai. Presently, this hotel has been rebranded as "My Fortune".
This happens to be ITC'S first hotel.
Got married in 2000, but destiny forced her to remain as a single parent
thereafter. She accepted this
tragedy graciously. She started as a telephone operator, but moved to
reservation later, and continued till 2006. Next three years were sheer struggle
and nothing else. Faced hard realities
silently. Fought every battle patiently.
Did her own gold coin business but failed. Tried her luck in clothing business :
failed again. Cosmetics business also went gone
into red. Then moved to an export company as an employee. God was kind.
The present General Manager of Fortune Select Palms, Ramani beckoned her back to
Fortune Select Palms in Chennai ..offered her a job in the reservations
department...thereafter there was no looking back... Working in this hotel happily..with
focussed performance she serves the guests of this hotel.
Kanchana lives with her mother and Varsha in Chennai.
Incidentally, when I landed at Chennai airport two days back and was proceeding to
this hotel ...it was raining...good omen. May God take Kanchana's
daughter Varsha under his protective wings and tread her on the correct path in
the days to come.. I am sure, God will be with Kanchana always.
