FROM ITC GRAND CHOLA, CHENNAI………2

HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS

Chauffeur Mahendran stopped my car at the Valluvan porch, at the 600 room iconic palace hotel, ITC Grand Chola at Chennai on 15th June around 4.00pm. I checked in. Guest Relations Executive ,Guneet Tiwana was escorting me to the tower wing where I was staying ( Room no. 3402)

My luggage arrived close on the heels and I thought I will have an Assam tea from Cafe Mercara. Serendipitously, what I found very appealing inside my room was the towel art. Two swans sitting on my bed with so much serenity. Along with Guneet, immediately I came out of the room. While proceeding towards the lift I was talking to Guneet on the beauty and charm on the towel art  and how the same offers a soothing feeling to the guest. Soon I heard a voice from behind.

"Excuse me Sir, It's me who did the towel art in your room". It was Avinash Kumar(24) the Housekeeping Room Attendant. This Bokaro born IHM Ranchi pass out housekeeping boy is known for his inimitable  hardwork. Come 22 June 2015, he will be wearing his black coat- he has been promoted as Housekeeping Supervisor. - a Natural consequence of his contribution.

Says Praveen Babu, Asst ManagerHousekeeping: "He knows very well about the preferences of the guests. That is his strength".

During my stay in ITC Grand Chola, every day he will create different towel art arrangements. See picture.

"Whenever I get time, I do towel art. Swan, turtle, elephant, peacock and birds are my favourite items" says Avinash Kumar, who strongly believes that the guests do really like such creative initiatives from the housekeeping team.

"The only thing I want is this: My guest should appreciate my services .Guests must go back happy. To ensure this, one should behave and conduct like a professional" says Avinash, who has been working with this iconic hotel since December 2012.

The ITC Grand Chola Tower where I have been staying redefines international standards of hospitality. This is the ninth time I am staying in this hotel since the opening. I have always wondered how this housekeeping team is keeping the hotel spotlessly gleaming.

Would you be interested  to know the secret ?

Here it is: "We are always together. The team co ordination is excellent. The seniors are very supportive. Our Executive Housekeeper, Pran Raina is very friendly and affable. Learning services department constantly trains us technically, which makes us more confident. Even soft skills trainings are also imparted with unabated regularity" recalls Avinash spontaneously.

Watching comedy Hindi movies is his hobby. Aamir Khan is his favourite hero.

He has set his goals clearly.
One:" I would like to come up in ITC Group itself".
Two: In seven years, I would love to reach the position of an Executive Housekeeper.

Good. Whatever happens in this world, first it happens in the mind. Then it actually happens.

Avinash Maharaj ki Jai ho!!!!
