"I DO SEND
MONEY TO MY HOME EVERY MONTH"
Meghalaya girl Batriti,
(23) working in The My Fortune Bengaluru,
in the My Cafe Restaurant, as a stewardess, is a different person. Most of the
North East Indian girls, whom I have featured in my blog, working in hotels, do
not have the habit of saving money. But, Batriti makes it a point to send Rs
4,000/- every month to her home. With unabated regularity ever since she joined
the hotel in April this year.
Her father is a farmer in Shilliong. Mom is a homemaker.
Of the Seven children Batriti is fourth. Elder brother is working with an NGO,
one elder sister is a lecturer in Shillong, and the other elder sister works in
a dental clinic. The younger siblings are studying.
Batriti is a singer; she has been an athlete during
school days.
"It is very difficult to get a job in Shillong"
says Batriti, who opted to go into F&B Service. After passing 10th, though
she pocketed a Diploma in Architectural Assistanceship (designs), a Govt
sponsored program that lasted 45 days, on F&B services held in Shillong
gave her lot of confidence. That is how she landed in My Fortune Bengaluru.
"This is my first job; I would love to work hard; I
am a career oriented. I hope I will get lot of exposure and experience in this
hotel" opines Batriti. She can speak in English, can understand Hindi.
What about Kannada? I asked.
"Kannada gotthillaa!!! She replied.
