FROM THE WESTIN GURGAON, NEW DELHI

SELLING SERENITY TO THE WESTIN GUESTS

"Foreign guests do evince more interest in yoga asanas. But, the Indian guests are more keen on meditation and pranayama" opines Dr Somlata Jha, the Wellness Team leader at the Heavenly Spa in the Westin Gurgaon New Delhi. Undoubtedly, a unique oasis for the business travelers.

The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi, the flagship hotel of Westin in India, offers an opportunity for their guests to experience Yoga to restore, enhance and augment their souls. The esteemed guests do have a choice to be pampered with a complimentary yoga session three times in a week, in the morning hours (7.30am to 8.30am), obviously an invigorating experience in this calming yoga oasis within a bustling city. Thanks to the priceless contribution by the Yoga teacher of this hotel, Somlataji.

The job profile of Somlata, the Wellness Team leader is teaching yoga to the guests. But, this yoga teacher goes beyond the call of duty. Interacting with the guests visiting the Spa, attending telephone calls, handling the reception area, answering the queries of the Spa guests, offering health tips to the coworkers, giving lectures in the internal workshops, teaching stretching exercises to the teams as per request…Lecture Engagement Sessions with the staff members of the Spa with unabated regularity..... Oho...the list is really long.

Somlata had joined Westin Sohna Resort and Spa in 2007. Later she took charge in this hotel in 2011 May. She lapped up her Postgraduate degree (MSc in Applied Yogic Science) from the Bihar Yog Bharathi, the first and foremost Yoga University in India. She also has earned Doctorate on her thesis on "scientific analysis of Prana Vidya depicted in Upanishads"(Dev Sanskriti Viswa Vidyalaya, Haridwar).

Dr Somlata had the good fortune of the five year stint with Jammu University as a Yoga Instructor. For three years she had been busy with her private sessions for the organizations and corporate community.

"Yoga asanas, Mudras, pranayama and Meditation techniques are the most sought after by the guests. Nowadays, guests are very eager to know more on Yoga Nidra. As per the needs of the guests, I shall be sharing info with them".

Listen to Jerome, the Hotel manager, who owns and runs Westin Gurgaon New Delhi: “ Somlata is an attentive instructor with immense wisdom an innate ability to customize the session to the guests’s requirements. She makes adjustments accurately and communicates with her students in a way that's engaging and result oriented”.

"Guests do verbally thank me in person. This is a great recognition by itself. Honestly speaking, for me this is a fulfilling experience" says Dr Somlata.

The Spa Manager Jagpreet Kaur opines: “Unpretentious Somlata brings her incredibly deep and extensive knowledge of yoga to her guests. From the great tradition that she has studied for 7 years, she is able to convey these in a clear and surprising way to her guests. In her classes, guests always leave feeling more uplifted and inspired then when they came”.

Somlata lives in South Delhi with her mother, husband (also a Yoga teacher) and her two sons-Siddhant (14) and Sushant (10).

Your sons also might be very interested in Yoga? I enquired with lot of eagerness.

"Not at all. They are not yet as of now" Somlata replied with a chuckle.
