ANGELS FROM NORTH EAST INDIA…………11

QUEEN OF THE BEAUTY BAR

"Right from childhood, my dream was to become a Nurse, like my mother; but, my parents never allowed me to take up the nursing line; At the same time, at the back of my mind, I had always wanted to help and serve people" says Chun Gongliu Gangmei (28), Nagaland born Beautician- makeup artist deputed at the Salon in
The Leela Palace, Udaipur.

"Positive, good comments by the Leela guests is a real morale booster. I really feel good on such occasions. Thank god, till today, ever since I joined this hotel in Sept 2012, I never had a case of any of the guests complaining on my service".

Chun specializes on beauty and make up. When asked about the qualities of a successful beautician, she replied: first of all one should be very patient in guest handling; talk less, guests like soft spoken beauticians; interact with the guests as per his/her moods and finally remember that it is our skill that will be noted and appreciated by the guest".

Once in a year she visits her home in Dimapur town in Nagaland. Reading books, cooking, stitching and gardening helps her to structure her time when she is off the Warren-Tricomi salon at the Leela Palace Udaipur.

In a talent contest, conducted as part of the employee engagement initiative conducted last year, she was recognized for her creative contribution. She made a doormat using the discarded towels- that happens to be Chun's happiest moment in this hotel.

"Internationally acclaimed Violin Artist Venessa Mae impressed me with her humbleness. Every guest offers a fresh experience. Prince William's sister in law Pippa Middleton had been in Udaipur for a culinary shoot; I was so happy when she appreciated my service".

The Warren -Tricomi Salon is open from 9am to 8pm. Chun will be there at 9am and will sign off by 5 pm. Every month she sends money to her family in Nagaland with unabated regularity." It can be ten to fifty per cent of my total earnings" says Chun.

Her parents are, presently, enjoying their retired life; of the seven children, Chun happens to be the third child; elder sister is married and is living in Canada. Both brothers are into business. Of the younger sisters one is a lawyer, the other a teacher and the third one, an Educational Manager.
