                                     All rounder Jaswant

By R Kesava Mallia in Udaipur

I do remember this incident very vividly. That was in 2010. I have been conducting my Service Excellence  workshops in Trident and Oberoi  Udaivilas, Udaipur. The then  General Manager of Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, Parveen Chander  had  been to Trident to see me. In the lobby, it is Jaswant who had welcomed Parveen. That day, it was Parveen who introduced me to Jaswant; Parveen was very magnanimous to appreciate on the inimitable qualities of Jaswant. Parveen has been very appreciate of Jaswant’s  guest centric attitudes… this incident is very green in my mind even today.

Recently, I have been staying in Trident, Udaipur.  I, once again had the good fortune of meeting/interacting with Jaswant.

Now, meet Jaswant Singh Karnot(38). Though his designation is presently bellboy, he is more than that. He goes beyond  to serve the guests…what I like in him is his ready-to-help attitude. He is an all rounder- boatman, buggy driver, bell boy… all put together. Come 2015, he will be completing 20 years of his association with the Trident, Udaipur.

“I  have been associated with Trident, Udaipur”, says Jaswant, “since the pre-opening days, that is from 1995”.

Marrried to Neeru Kunwar, he is blessed with two children. Digvijay Singh(10)  and Laskshmi Karnot(05). His father Roop Singh has been working as a caretaker of the Maharana Bhagawat Singhji, the king of Udaipur. In the month of April this year, he moved to his newly built home.

As many as four times, since the opening of the Trident in 1988, Jaswant had been selected as the” Best Employee of the month”.  No wonder, in the guest comments card, Jaswant’s name often appears, as he is ready to serve the guests whole heartedly. Let it be explaining the history of Udaipur during the boat ride, or luggage assistance or executing diligently  the requests of the guests, he does it smilingly, willingly and joyously.

In 2010, once again Jaswant had proven his honesty by returning all the dollars to the Front Desk  that has been left in the safe by the guest, who had been already checked out of the hotel.

Jaswant wears many caps, and has inherited his father’s sense of commitment and Integrity.
