FROM THE HERITAGE VILLAGE RESORTS & SPA, GOA

                   GRATEFUL WITH GRATITUDE

It was a Sunday. The hotel was running utterly full. The Lunch Buffet pick up had just completed. Chef Sharda (CDP) tasted the Biryani after garnishing the same. Time was 12.45 PM.

Just next to her cooking range, another Chef had just finished preparing the Gulab Jamun. He was transferring the Kadhai (cooking vessel) which had
hot oil in it ...he slipped slightly and lost his balance ...and the hot oil spilled on the ground ... spilling over the feet and ankles of Chef Sharda as well.

Chef Sharda (36) was narrating this painful moment of her life to me, at the Coffee Shop of the Heritage Village and Resort and Spa, Goa earlier this week.

“I am grateful to this hotel with gratitude”, she said. This tragic incident had happened last year in June. The month of June has a special significance in Sharda’s life. Her birthday falls on June 1st. Five years back she joined this hotel in June and this accident in the kitchen also happened in the month of June.

Being a Sunday, the General Manager of the hotel was not there when the accident happened. Even the HR Manager also was not there. That said, Chef Ramesh took her to the nearest hospital immediately. She was advised to be at home for the next two months. During this period, the hotel paid full salary to her. It was promptly credited on the first of the months. Her accumulated leaves were left untouched too. No questions were asked. The entire hotel prayed for her silently. They supported her with unabated regularity for the next two months. Many visited Sharda at her home to express their care and concern for her. “Take complete rest” was the message given the compassionate General Manager Mr. Guitry Velho.

“She is very good in Goan Cooking; I like her Prawn Curry very much.  Our Chairman Mr. Arjun Sharma also likes Goan dishes cooked by her.  She is always willing to learn more and more things” says Guitry Velho, General Manager of Heritage Village Club, Goa.

“Three years back I stopped all my social work” quipped Karnataka born Sharda who was the President of the local Mahila Mandal. Her intention was to focus more on her profession. This Goan Chef is equally adept in Indian and South Indian cuisine too.

Married to Basavaraj, a Painting Contractor at Goa at the age of 14, this tastemaker is blessed with a daughter- Priyanka, final year B.Com student.

Educated till standard VIII, Sharda started her career as a cook with a caterer in Goa. Worked there for five years. Maharaja Hotel, Kenilworth and Planet Hollywood were her next stops – all three hotels based in Goa. For the last five years, Heritage Village Resort and Spa has been her second home.

Keeping the home neat and clean is her hobby.

“I should learn more on Indian cuisine” says Sharda, who always wears an electric smile on her face.

Resorts in Goa

Located in the north of Goa, amidst the lush green trees is one of the best resorts in Goa, The Estrela Hotels & Resort. The location is so near to the beach that you can hop-step-jump in the sea from the resort. It is just 2 minutes walk from the beach.

Have a smooth check-in. You have a choice from the standard rooms to club rooms. If you have your children with you, one can for in for Junior Suit. And if it is only a couple, cottage would be the ideal place to stay. Enjoy the satellite TV, mini-bar, tea/coffee maker among other things.

Have your breakfast in La Sana Vida. Have a spread of varieties. Have your fresh juices. Then simply walk out and jump into the sea. Enjoy the waves, take a swim, even collect some shells, small ones or if lucky, you may find a big one.

Have lunch in The Lagoon. Have you fill from all the sumptuous layout of various delicacies. After that just go out. Hire a bike or a scooter. Go around the country side, enjoy the fields on one side and water on the other. Feel the fresh breeze blowing in between your hairs. Fill your lungs with the fresh air.

Then it is time to unwind your day. Get back to the Lagoon. Enjoy the sunset with the cocktails on the anvil. Let your kids enjoy in the pool. Enjoy the music and if the mood is right, you can dance. Enjoy La Sana Vida for its authentic cuisine and zesty ambience.

Enjoy the warmth of the cozy beds awaiting you and taking out your tiredness of the day. Turn on the air conditioner and enjoy your sleep.
