WE SEE WHAT WE WANT TO SEE!
Gratitude makes me write this note.
Its 9.00pm on a peaceful Saturday
evening as I write my diary. …
The week gone by has been special on
many counts – and one in particular.
In the evening hours today, I met
Aparajita Das. She is the Executive Housekeeper at Novotel Kolkata. In her
effervescent style she said “Sir the TripAdvisor review you wrote after your
last visit in July 2015 was shared with all our staff members. Not only
that we even made photocopies of it and gave it to all the team members whose
name featured in your review. Everybody was thrilled”. I smiled and kept quiet.
Two days back something similar had
happened. I had visited the ITC Kakatiya earlier this month (Aug 29th
2015). It was for a business meeting with the General Manager – Mr N Krishnan.
On my way out I stopped over to have my lunch at the Deccan Pavilion (the
all-day dining venue in that hotel). Once done I decided to share my feedback
on TripAdvisor – like I always do. Like any other review it was straight
from my heart – but that was about it. I didn’t make too much out of it, till I
received a call from Shubham Sharma this week. He is the Learning and
Development Manager at ITC Kakatiya. Over our conversation he told me that my
Trip Advisor review had struck a chord with the entire leadership team of
ITC Kakatiya and that Shubham had personally read it out (word by word) to an
audience of 40 Managers and Mr Krishnan himself! Once again I smiled but still
kept quiet.
Now the case in point – “From when
did Trip Advisor become a Motivational Tool”? Well, it doesn’t claim to
be one as yet …but the real answer is a little deeper though.
In 2008, I had read a book by the
name of ‘Secret’ (by Rhonda Byrne). Amongst the many things I liked in
that book there was this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson which stayed with
me for a long time. It said “Once You Make A Decision, The Universe Conspires
To Make It Happen!”
So true.
I believe every word of it and I live
my life on this principle.
I have seen many things come true in
my life in this manner….sometimes in the most unexpected ways.
This was one such example. These two
incidents on my TripAdvisor reviews may be co-incidental ….but I see this a bit
differently.
To help you join the dots…… my single minded passion in life is to help,
guide and motivate others…..and I always look for ways and means to do this
better.
And this time it was technology which
made it happen …in the form of TripAdvisor.
I don’t claim to be a tech savvy
person and neither does TripAdvisor claim to be a motivational tool – but
somehow it all converged for the right reasons!
Thank You TripAdvisor.
(It all depends on what you want to
see.)
