FROM THE ITC GARDENIA,BENGALURU.......6

"PRINCE" CHARLES OF KITCHEN STEWARDING

The Best Employee of the year Award 2013 sat lightly on this shoulder last year.47 yr old Charles does not have the count on how many times he has been slapped Welcom Achiever Awards.

"Oho, this year alone I have been awarded around 3000 points" says Charles who happens to be the Vice Captain of the 45 member Kitchen Stewarding team at ITC Gardenia, Bengaluru.

Charles joined ITC Gardenia on 2009, three months before the opening of the hotel. For the last eighteen years, he has been with the industry. Has worked in Leela Palace and Taj Vivanta, both properties based at Bengaluru. Married to Nalini Alphonsa, he is blessed with a son,

Moses Sampres, (2nd year PUC student) and a daughter Sharon studying in ninth standard.

"ITC imparts first grade training to the kitchen stewarding team. Every week training sessions happen with unabated regularity. Classes on chemicals, pot wash (wash, rinse, sanitize) dish wash (arrangements of all crockeries) are provided to ensure job enrichment" says Charles.

Kitchen stewarding encompasses Pot wash, Dish wash and Floor wash. Kitchen cleaning, that is thorough cleaning happens only after 2am, because till 1am guests will be there in the restaurants.

What is that one thing you want to do in life now? I asked.

"I would love to stop smoking for good" came the reply from Charles.

Any hotel employees listening?
