"OBEROI’S WORK CULTURE IS AMAZING"




"While I was a Hotel Management student, in my mind, I had only two hotel chains. One is the Oberoi, second, the Taj group. Luckily I got a job in Oberoi” disclosing on his association with The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata since June 2011, Kishan Singh(26) added that “Oberoi standards are really amazing".

Manipur boy Kishan Singh was born in Imphal. Presently, he is working as the F&B Assistant in Baan Thai, a renowned Thai restaurant located at the lobby level in The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata. He pocketed his hotel management degree from IHM Shillong.  After finishing his two years as operational trainee in this hotel, he rose to the level of a Food & Beverages Assistant.

Kishan had also lapped up the student of the year in 2009-10. This happened when Kishan was in the second year. This award was being given on the basis of many a parameters like marks scored, attendance, grooming etc to name a few. In the overall marks he had the third rank in the Hotel Management College.

"The more I interact with the guests, the richer I become in terms of experience.  Oberoi group's "mission, vision and dharma” has really been a motivating factor for me" admits Kishan Singh who has been the wine champion for three consecutive months. Champion of the champions title sat lightly on his shoulders, thanks to his guest centric attitude. There are 20 champion of the champions, in this hotel and their names are being displayed prominently in a big board located near the staff cafeteria. The selection of champion of champions is mainly based on the positive feedback given by the guests of this hotel.

One day, he was working in CHOWRINGHEE Bar, one of the four guests had left as much as Rs 5000/- in the seat itself; but they had proceeded to the nearby La Terrase Restaurant. Without wasting any time, he returned the entire money to the guests. This incident gave lot of happiness to Kishan also the sense of satisfaction for having pleased a guest.

"The leadership qualities of Amardeep Singh has influenced me very much. He exactly understands the problems of his subordinates" says Kishan Singh.

(Amardeep is presently the GM at Trident Kochi. Before that he was F&B Manager of this hotel).

What about Sabrina, the newly joined F&B Manager? I asked.

"She is very friendly" came the reply from Kishan.

Kishan's father is a small businessman, mom a homemaker. Younger brother and younger sister, both are studying. They all live in Manipur.
