Venue-Mumbai International Airport. Year-2010 the guest has arrived; chauffeur Uday met him; greeted; escorted him to the hotel car; requested the guest to be seated.....loaded the bags into the boot of the car....

The guest Jeff Kendle from California has already been inside the car; the bags have been loaded; chauffeur Uday was about to start the car...... As usual, he promptly reminded the guest that all four of his bags have been kept in the boot of the car.......

"No...No… I had five bags with me. Uday was ready for action...he took the guest back to the arrival exit gate; spoke to the CISF guard...requested him to allow his guest to go inside again....called the Airport Manager of Continental Airlines ...requested for help.......waited for the guest just outside the arrival gate for more than an hour.......God's grace...what else...guest came out with a smiling face.....thanked Uday profusely for his caring attitude.

The guest, a manufacturer of oil rig machinery parts based at California,USA  has been staying with The Westin Mumbai garden city, an upscale hotel located in east Goregaon in  East Mumbai. Jeff thanked his stars because, his passport and other important documents were kept in the bag, which has been away from him for some time.

As a token of gratitude for the help done, the guest, Jeff ordered the Travel desk of the hotel: "I need only Uday to drive my car when I am in Mumbai". Yes, for the next eight days chauffeur Uday has been with the Guest....
 
This is just one example to narrate. Such cases are many. The guest, who gets acquainted with Uday, will ask for his services again....and again....and again....

Mangalore born Driver Uday Bhaskar Shet (39, lives in a slum area, near the domestic airport, with three children- Amit, Abhishek, daughter Ashmita and wife Suma, in a small rented house. He has been associated with Westin Mumbai since the per-opening days in 2009.

Always well groomed-well dressed-well mannered Uday speaks many a languages fluently. English, Hindi, Konkani, Kannada,Tulu,Malayalm, Coorgi Kannada. He can speak and understand a little Tamil also.

This cell savvy driver connects with the guests over SMS, email and WhatsApp.  Amazing guest connect...sample this:

The Westin guest Keith Leong from Singapore connects with Uday over email; so too, Daniel Preetham from Bengaluru. Jet airways pilot Thomas....to many other VIP guests including renowned celebrities. Many a guests from all walks of life are in touch with him. Thanks to the technology. Uday always makes it a point to send SMS to his guests, to convey his greetings during festivals.

I have travelled with him once, year before last; from Westin Mumbai, he drove me to Westin Pune. Ever since then I will be receiving  SMSes from Uday. Let it be Diwali, Holy, Navaratri or Sivaratri....without fail SMSes will show up its face.

Not for him ,complaining about anything on life. Because  he knows the meaning of contentment.

"Ever since, I joined Westin Mumbai, it is around five years now", says Uday, "I have learnt a lot on discipline, grooming, communication with the guests etc. I have an opportunity to meet people from different countries. It is yet another experience".
